Podcasting Rut and Upcoming Events

Hi guys,

First, I want to apologize for the lack of podcast episode updates. During the time the website has been down, I’ve gone through two Blue Yeti mics that have made for some poor quality recordings. I’ve been pretty unhappy with how they’ve turned out, and that’s just sucked the enthusiasm I had for producing new content. Just relistening to them for editing makes me sad. And for further injury, the podcast has been delisted from the iTunes store since the RSS feed was dead while our hosting was down.

But all it not lost. While the Yeti microphone is out, I’ve decided to pursue a better podcasting set up that is more ideal for our group recordings, both in person and over Skype. Due to life problems, funding is a little bit lower than I’d like at the moment, but I will get our new podcasting gear in the near future. It’ll just happen slowly. No, I’m not planning to do a Kickstarter for this (which is the popular thing to do these days), especially since I have nothing to offer in terms of backer rewards. What I mean by slow is, well, it’ll be a gradual acquiring of all the pieces, and luckily there’s an upcoming Black Friday sale for some of the more major parts. And if you subscribed to the podcast in the past on iTunes, you can still get the episodes updated to your iTunes (at least, I did), or you can listen to them on our website. We’re still trying to get our podcast relisted on the iTunes store.

We’re still recording, although not as timely as I’d like. We have four in the can that need editing, and I am definitely planning to have all of those out before my next convention: New York Comic Con. Yes, I will be attending solo and joining the One Piece Podcast in covering and enjoying this con. Viz is also planning some Ranma 1/2 events, and you know that Shonen Jump has some sort of fan meet up planned as well. So if you’re out in the East Coast for that convention, I hope to see you there!

We’re Back! Upcoming Podcasts, Japan Expo USA, and More Announcements!

Hi everyone! It’s great to be back up an running again. As you could tell, our website has been down for the past two months due to server transfer issues along with getting the databases back up and running with MySQL. Thankfully, that’s all been taken care of, and we can get back to our regularly scheduled programming. Podcast episode backlog should now be in full force, and for any new listeners, we’ll get the entire backlog up on iTunes shortly.

Speaking of Cosplay Jam, we’ll have new episodes up after this weekend since we will be at Japan Expo USA in Santa Clara. We’ve got a double Anime Expo episode, double Comic Con episode in the works, and a bunch of other topics (yes, we will discuss the new reality show Heroes of Cosplay). So hope your podcast ears are ready, because we have got a lot to talk about.

And finally, thank you to all listeners and fans who happen to like our Facebook page, especially those who enjoy Aaron’s photography. Thanks to you all, we have broken 700 likes on Facebook! So if you haven’t joined in yet, what are you waiting for? Head over to www.facebook.com/skcosplay and click the Like button today!

2012 Suupaa Kaizoku Cosplay Contest

Well, the year is winding down, and SK Cosplay is out of conventions for the rest of the year. But that doesn’t mean we’re done just yet. We’ve had an amazing experience so far, and we’re very thankful for those who have helped us. So now, we have reached over 350 likes on Facebook! That’s amazing since it felt like it was just yesterday that we barely passed 300. So as a show of thanks, we’re having a cosplay contest in a way that only we know how.

As you may know, we get the “Suupaa” in our name from Franky’s trademark catchphrase in One Piece. So the winner of the cosplay contest will of course get a brand new Grandline Men Franky along with a set of 4 Yu-Gi-Oh! cards that are a part of Viz Media’s Shonen Jump Alpha promotion. Rules to enter are really simple:

• Post a photo of yourself in any type of One Piece cosplay, from either a convention or photoshoot to our Facebook wall: www.facebook.com/skcosplay

• Include your name (if different from your Facebook name), character name that you are cosplaying, year the photo was taken, and location of the photo

• Only submit photos of yourself. If you only have a group photo, indicate which of the group you are (especially if there are duplicate characters in the photo i.e. Luffy Group shot)

• Photos must be submitted BEFORE December 25, 2012 to qualify

• SK Cosplay will then select a group of finalists, from which the winner will be decided by fans via “Likes”

• No more than THREE (3) entries per person/account.

• Anyone caught cheating will be disqualified. This contest is run just for fun, so let’s have fun

Happy Holidays everyone! Submit those photos soon, and good luck to everyone. STAY SUUPAA!!!

The fans have spoken (sort of), and now you’ve got it. We’ve got the first of hopefully many Fritz-centric episodes. While we cannot have a full tutorial of each sword on this podcast episode, we’re hoping that this will inspire you to take a crack at it. And for future help, we’ll definitely post some example videos online. Here, Fritz goes over from his first props made to stories and tips about making everything else he’s done. And for more prop photos, just check out his Facebook page in the links below. So sit back and enjoy the stories. And if you do decide to attempt woodworking, remember your safety equipment.
